Critic: William Arbizu
5-Cell is the end outcome of an exercise in pure form. Rather than working with references or symbols, it was a reaction to the spatial, environmental and programmatic facts of the project.
The experiential qualities of the space were not premeditated, but rather, they are byproducts of an investigation of geometric efficiency. It is an expression of intersecting vectors. The initial descent underground is the product of a single cut across the surface, pulled downward by a point. This resulting tetrahedron is echoed throughout, the emergent space a highly logical fractalization of the simplest Platonic solid.
