Client: The Living
Role: Freelance Fabricator
Centre Pompidou
Paris, France
Living Bricks, created for the Centre Pompidou’s “Fabric of the Living” exhibition, builds on previous research utilizing mycelium as a living building material, introducing the concept of “bio-welding”. Living mycelium bricks are amassed within an external scaffolding, allowing the blocks to self-aggregate into a structural arch. The support is removed, and the bricks are fed additional nutrients, allowing them to further grow and bind to each other. In this way, the mycelium blocks fulfill the role of both brick and mortar in a single object.
