Ouroboros is a place of communal solitude in which we find comfort in being alone, together. Hidden away from the outside world, the library acts as a heterotopia, creating a space far enough removed from the everyday that one may reflect on the world to which we must inevitably return.
Like the labyrinths of Gothic cathedrals, the circulation performs as a pilgrimage path, leading users simultaneously inward and upward through larger public spaces and into smaller intimate spaces. As one journeys further into the enclave and towards the stores of knowledge, the light filtering through slits in the heavy steel walls is replaced by natural light from above. Yet, even when inhabiting its innermost depths, one is never entirely disembodied from the whole.
